This year’s CHEST Annual Meeting will be the third year hosting the CHEST Foundation’s Lung Health Experience. Lung health experience events bring together local respiratory therapists and leading lung health experts to the public in a fun and inviting atmosphere. This event allows members of the community to connect with their local lung health champions so that they can begin the conversation about their lung health outside of the clinical setting, get their lungs screened by a respiratory therapist or pulmonologist, learn about different disease states, and gain empathy for those with conditions and diseases like asthma and COPD.
Since the first Lung Health Experience held at the 2016 CHEST Annual Meeting in Los Angeles, there have been a total of seven events, including host cities: Oklahoma City, Nashville, Chicago, Toronto, and soon, San Antonio. At the most recent event on June 20, 2018, the Chicago community came together for the Lung Health Experience in the heart of downtown Chicago at Richard J. Daley Plaza. More than 350 people attended the event, and over 275 of those received a free spirometry test delivered by CHEST members. Attendees then toured the Virtual Patient Tour, a set of robots that simulate differences in lung function between a person with healthy lungs and those living with COPD or asthma and gathered patient education materials from our partner organizations on topics related to lung health.
This year CHEST Foundation is partnering with the San Fernando Health and Safety Fair to bring the Lung Health Experience to San Antonio to kick off CHEST 2018. You can attend on Saturday, October 6th, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at the San Antonio Main Plaza.
Thank you, CHEST Foundation donors, for your continued contributions that make important community service events like the Lung Health Experience a reality and continue to grow.
