Acute Respiratory Failure: A Simulation Exercise

October 21, 2021 - October 1, 2022

This simulation-based session will focus on the understanding and respiratory management of the patient with acute respiratory failure beginning with community-acquired pneumonia to acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Prerecorded clinical simulation scenarios will be presented and stopped for live polling of the audience for next steps in clinical decision-making. Faculty panel will provide clinical input along the way to augment the various approaches and options available for a live and interactive discussion. This will be followed by an explanation of the best answer and faculty comments of clinical correlations.

Learning Objectives:

  1. 1. Recognize worsening respiratory failure in patients with pulmonary disorders.
  2. 2. Develop respiratory management strategies based on key physiologic principles.
  3. 3. Adjust management strategies of acute respiratory failure in the presence of changing patient physiology.
